Incorporate listening as an integral part of your musical journey

I would like to start my first blog post by sharing my strong belief in the importance of listening to classical music for the following reasons:

  • in order to be a good musician, you must have good ears, and there isn't a better way to achieve this than by simply listening to more and more classical music, which can accessed easily on YouTube and Spotify
  • can serve as inspiration for students to learn and practice more
  • helps to broaden your knowledge of classical music (e.g. oh, now I finally know the name of this familiar melody)
  • classical music is a language, and in order to appreciate and acquire a good understanding of any language, it requires studying AND listening
  • IT DOESN'T TAKE ANY EXTRA TIME: you can be engaging in a wide variety of activities while listening; for example, you can be studying, driving, working out or having dinner
  • classical music, particularly slow-paced, calming compositions like works by Mozart or Debussy, generates Alpha brave wave, a calming wave length that leads to stress reduction, mindfulness, calmer state of mind, improved focus and concentration
